Dr Viriato Ferreira is an associate director in the General Conference Health Ministries Department. After receiving his medical degree he worked in Emergency Medicine and Anesthetics. In 1994 he was appointed as medical officer in Namibia, as part of a mission/humanitarian project. He also worked in Pediatrics and completed a Fellowship Program in Lifestyle and Preventive Medicine in the USA.
Dr Ferreira is the president of the Portuguese Association of Preventive Medicine, an organization he co-founded in 2003. This association provides medical services, health education and is establishing the first Lifestyle Center in Portugal. He also served as Health Ministries director of the Portuguese Union and the Inter-European Division of Seventh-day Adventists until 2014.
He has a passion for a blended ministry which combines health and ministry into effective service to the community through pastors, health professionals and all church members. He has extensively promoted programs such as Health Expos and Health Clubs, in Europe, the Americas and Africa.
He is married to Judith Marianne, who is also a medical doctor and a partner in mission since their student days. The couple has two daughters – Vemuundja and Clarisse – and a son - Daniel.
