Professor Tar-Ching Aw trained as a medical doctor and completed a Masters degree in occupational medicine, and a PhD at the University of London before embarking on residency training in Preventive Medicine under the Epidemic Intelligence Service program of the CDC (Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, USA). He is currently interim Dean of the College of Medicine & Health Sciences of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU). In 2007, he moved from the University of Kent in Canterbury, UK where he was Professor of Occupational Medicine to be Chair of the Department of Community Medicine (now the Institute of Public Health) at the United Arab Emirates University. His previous appointments were at the Institute of Occupational Health, University of Birmingham, UK and at the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) in Cincinnati, USA.
Professor Aw has served as WHO and ILO consultant, elected Board member of the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH), and elected board member of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, Royal College of Physicians (London). He is also director of the newly designated WHO Collaborating Centre for Occupational Health at UAE University, Al-Ain.
