Dwight Evans, MD

Dr. Evans’ interest in healthcare delivery started with time spent in childhood in the Inter-American Division, followed by time spent as a student missionary in Korea, and subsequent service as an interdivision employee in the Inter-American Division. Over the past 20 years, working at Loma Linda, Dr Evans has served as a consultant for the General Conference Health Ministries Department in medical education and quality and patient safety in 8 of the Church’s world divisions. He currently serves as the Assistant Dean of the LLU School of Medicine.

Karen Winston, MD

Karen A. Winston earned her Bachelor of Science degree with honors from Loma Linda University (La Sierra campus) in 1979. She took a hiatus from school and then entered Michigan State University where she earned the Doctor of Medicine degree from the College of Human Medicine in 1987. Immediately following medical school she started a residency in pediatrics at Loma Linda University which she completed in 1990 and was awarded the Jeannie Andrews Ambulatory Pediatric Award. Dr. Winston joined the Redlands Pediatric Medical Group in Redlands, California where she practiced general pediatrics for two years before being recruited to teach in the Department of Pediatrics in Loma Linda University School of Medicine. She served as Director of the Pediatric Medical Student Clerkship for seven years while sustaining a practice. For the past 10 years, she has been teaching in the Physical Diagnosis center where she helps students develop clinical diagnosis competencies and communication skills, in preparation for the Macy exit examination and board examinations. Dr. Winston is a Fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics, has served on numerous medical school committees and continues to enjoy balancing her time between teaching medical students and residents with a busy practice. She has lectured on numerous topics nationally and internationally.  

Carlos Fayard

Associate Professor of Psychiatry

Dr. Fayard is Associate Professor, Chair, Psychiatry and Religion Program, Director of the Clinical Psychology Internship and Director of Psychotherapy Training, Department of Psychiatry, Loma Linda University School of Medicine. He is an Assistant Director for Mental Health Affairs, Health Ministries Department, General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Recently, Dr. Fayard was appointed to a panel of experts to provide advice on the “Plan for Mental Health Action 2014-2020 by the World Health Organization/Pan American Health Organization. He is the co-editor of A Christian worldview and mental health: Adventist perspectives published by Andrews University Press and Vida Abundante: La Psicologia Positiva desde la Cosmovision Biblica published by Editorial Universidad de Montemorelos.
