Scott C. Smith, DDS is an Assistant Professor in the department of Oral Diagnosis, Radiology and Pathology at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. He graduated from LLUSD class of 2009 and received certification as a Tobacco Treatment Specialist in 2013 from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Smith is currently the course director for Dental Emergency Diagnosis and Treatment and Etiology and Management of Dental Caries. He lectures regularly on tobacco cessation and motivational interviewing for pre-doctoral and international dental students and dental hygiene students and establish the LLUSD clinic protocol for helping patients to quit using tobacco. Prior to dentistry, Dr. Smith served as an assistant pastor in Hermiston, Oregon for 2 years and an associate pastor for Jr. High Ministries at Loma Linda University Church in Loma Linda, California for 4 years. During his ministry at Loma Linda University Church, Dr. Smith regularly had over 100 Jr. High students attending Sabbath School and was fortunate to be featured baptizing a young woman in an article on longevity in the November 2005 issue of National Geographic. Dr. Smith is married to a dermatologist, Dr. Andrea Bassham-Smith, and together they enjoy travelling, hiking and scuba diving in their free time.  

Janet Bauer, DDS

After retiring from UCLA School of Dentistry in 2013, I joined the Faculty at Loma Linda University, School of Dentistry. I currently involved in developing the Evidence-based Research and Practice program and assist Dr. Sue Spackman in developing the Oral Health Aging program. Since my appointment, I have worked at the Center of Dental Research in developing evidence-based program knowledge management systems for which I hold 1 copyright from the US Library of Congress, 2 copyrights pending, and 1 patent pending. My current research is in creating the LLU Clinical Practice Guideline Mapping project.

Doyle Nick

Associate Professor

Dr. Nick graduated from dental school in 1978. He finished a post graduate certificate in Prosthodontics in 1995. He is presently finishing up requirements for a masters degree in Medical Professions Education. He has practiced dentistry in private practice, in the United States Indian Health Service, as a public health dentist, and as a SDA missionary dentist in Asia. Dr. Nick is presently an Associate Professor in the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry and is a member of the Medical Staff at Loma Linda University Medical Center. Since January, 2007 he has also had responsibilities in the Office on International Affairs and in Dental Affairs for the General Conference Health Ministries Department.
